Young unwed mothers in a drug treatment center are dying suspiciously. Their preschool children are disappearing and nobody wants to notice. Ignorance about therapeutic narcotic usage feeds political wars and endangers families through willful arrogance. Rebecca and Michael don't agree about the anchors that should keep them from opposing each other on nearly every important issue. A life-threatening decision exposes the weaknesses of their relationship and destroys Rebecca's trust in the people she loves. What will happen to the marriage that was supposed to last forever? Once upon a time..., the first of the Justice and Mercy series.

When you open the book, Justice and Mercy, you are immediately inthe small community of Markston struggling with conflicts arising
from changing populations and nearby crowded secular growth. Rebecca's life
is engrossed in the community of righteous Mormons and her position as leader
of a competitive special music group. Markston is not immune to
gossip, family disagreements, church intervention, and drug addiction.
With heavy migraine headaches, Rebecca's medication is caught up with
misunderstandings and misinterpretations. The church elders and her husband,
disagreeing with her doctor, institutionalize her for a short term rest in a
locked facility. Rebecca is challenged to defend herself against her husband
and the Mormon system of problem resolution. Trust and truth become insurmountable
issues forcing her to separate herself from her family. Will Rebecca come to terms
with the forces tearing her apart, or will she find the courage to forgive her
husband and find the spiritual peace and harmony she seeks? The reader
awaits the outcome.

Justice and Mercy Once upon a time Volume 1 Carol Menges 9781539855705 Books Reviews
I finally found the time to finish this today. I'm already eager to get the next book. I am hoping for the best comes to Rebecca and her new friends at the hospital. One reason it took me so long to read a book that wasn't so long is that I felt such empathy for Rebecca. When she (and others in the story) were being mistreated I would worry about her (them). So reading on my breaks wasn't a good idea. Never read a book involving a rehab unit before. Good job, Carol!
