A Millennial Proposal for Preventing the Children of Baby Boomers From Being a Burden to Their Parents and Country

By Jessica Mae Stover, author of Astral Fall

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

"My daughter has gifted this writing to all of her friends. I can't understand why she's so obsessed with it or how she got the money when she hardly ever works!"
- Kirsty Allred

"Does anyone near Pittsburg want to co-host a multi-family banquet dinner? My parents are kind of fancy and I think they'd like that."
- Fredbert Willings II

"At least my son, a college graduate, is reading something other than comic books. He's read this a few times already and far as I can tell it has no pictures, so if you can get him to read political work, you must be doing something right and I should probably thank you."
- Christopher C. Macchen

"I cannot wait for SD!!!!!!1 Question Do my brother and I have to split the 5k?"
- Karen Tuthers

"My professional pharmaceutical skills were going to waste as I languished in unemployment. This digital pamphlet helped me turn things around. Kudos to Miss Stover for solving the problems of an entire generation!"
- Bill Fastings

"How long before Facebook tries to acquire this?"
- Shan Rop, The Digital Dish Daily Scoop

"The most savage and exciting political essay of the season!"
- Kent Badgely

"Heads up that as we near the event there will likely be ice shortages in hotter areas like Arizona and Florida. We're working in anticipation of that, but people should begin stocking up now."
- Dawn Mulligan

"Finally, a reasonable economic plan that we can all agree on."
- Davis Henley, The Economy Institute of Greater America

A MILLENNIAL PROPOSAL edition by Jessica Mae Stover Politics Social Sciences eBooks

I stumbled across Ms. Stover's link to a one star review of this piece and was intrigued enough to buy her essay. It didn't hurt that I'd just read a Reason piece titled "The Real Class Warfare is Baby Boomers Vs. Younger Americans." I'm still not sure if that was coincidence or an insanely genius viral marketing campaign.

"A Millennial Proposal" is an obvious homage to Swift's "A Modest Proposal" and saying more on that point would spoil the fun. It's basically a well formed rant on the plight of our younger generation, taking points that we've heard before but distilling them nicely. Although I generally agree with her sentiments, her straw man is a mite too facile for me. Maybe that's just my Gen X proximity to the Boomers speaking, but then again there's only so much you can do in a short essay like this. It's a good length for a rant (too much longer would spoil it), yet packs enough value to make it worth the (very modest) price. For its brevity I'm tempted to dredge up a fast food metaphor, but that would be a disservice. It's a fun, quick read that touches on some deadly serious issues. Highly recommended.

Someone who "gets" it. Best plan since Jonathan Swift. The excesses of the Baby Boomers have totally wrecked the hopes of all subsequent generations! The problem is at a critical point and the solution absolutely has to be radical. Boomers, who were supposed to care about peace and love and mother earth, turned out to care only about Beemers and bank accounts. No greedier group has ever graced the planet. I have been saying this for such a long time, it's time someone had the courage to suggest a real solution, before it's too late.
A modern take on the cinematic classic, Logan's Run. As Stover recommends, "renewal" just might be the best option we have available.
If you read this literally, you're gonna have a bad time. A bit bitter for my tastes either way but does a good job addressing the issues. I suggest boomers to read it with an open mind.
In light of the state of economic affairs on a national (and global) level, this work posits a serious address to the "grey ceiling" many young workers encounter. Lack of real opportunity, stifled progression, and a grim future all point to this extreme, yet novel, elegant solution. As an aging gen. X er, I see the writing on the wall. This next generation is clawing for opportunities. I appreciate your aggressive way of addressing the limitations our society and the previous generations have placed upon you. Well done.
At first I was a bit annoyed with the derision my age group is described with, but the story quickly gave way to ideas I've already read about change only coming once the baby boomer/greatest generation leaders die and the younger generations gain office. I have to say I was a bit shocked by the ideas presented here but enjoyed the matter-of-fact way the author presented them.
I must say I read through some of the other reviews and those who didn’t like this do not seem understand satire. Just as Jonathan Swift did not really desire the Irish poor to feed their babies to the rich nor does the author want millennials to kill their parents. It does however, take a look at baby boomers (or at least some of them) feelings about the new generation.
It is a fun read always nice to know that people are still readings the classics and can see how they parallel modern society.
I'm going to download the Boomify app immediately, so I can start preparing for Sacrifice Day. I hope our first non boomer president in 25 years will able to fill the shoes of giants.
